Net worth limit: From December 1, 2025, to November 30, 2026, the net worth limit is $163,699. Net worth includes all personal property (except house, car, and basic furnishings) minus debt .
3-Year Look-Back Period: VA reviews asset transfers in the 3 years before filing a claim. Transfers for less than fair market value may trigger a penalty period of up to 5 years .

VA subtracts your countable income from your MAPR amount. The difference is your annual pension, divided by 12 for monthly payments .
Example: A Veteran with a dependent spouse qualifies for Aid and Attendance. Combined yearly income is $10,000. MAPR is $33,548. Annual pension = $23,548 ($1,962/month) .
Deductible medical expenses: You may deduct unreimbursed medical expenses exceeding 5% of your MAPR amount .
What it is: Non-profit organization providing zero-interest loans, grants, or both to Soldiers and families facing unexpected financial emergencies .
Who qualifies:
Active-Duty Soldiers and eligible dependents
Army Reserve and National Guard activated on Title 10 orders for 30+ consecutive days
Retired Soldiers (longevity, medical, age 60 for Reserve Component)
Surviving spouses and children of Soldiers who died on active duty or after retirement
What it covers: Over 30 categories including emergency travel, natural disaster preparation, mortgage/rent, utilities, food, healthcare not covered by TRICARE, vehicle costs, funeral expenses, PCS travel, and essential furniture .

What it is: Provides no-interest loans and/or grants to Airmen, Guardians, and families for unexpected emergency financial situations .
Standard Assistance covers basic living expenses, medical/dental care, adoption, funeral expenses, vehicle repairs, home repairs, emergency travel, immigration costs, PCS pet transportation, and more .
Falcon Assistance: Streamlined process for active-duty personnel with loans up to $1,500, no budget required .
Financial Lift-Off Program: Free online financial literacy course developed with USAA Educational Foundation. Completing the course can earn up to $500 loan credit for AFAS loans received on or after January 1, 2026 .
